Day 1 of the tour!

Ok so, I am going to not discuss the bad bits in rant fashion because
who knows who will read this, maybe my new best friends!

Anyway today was quite productive in the scheme of things, after
gaining confidence yesterday today I was ready to trot through the
length of the market street near the hotel in karol bagh, to the
Metro station, it's very good! Clean, swift, easy to understand and
good value.. A smooth ride too. I took it to the end station
Indraprastha.

I knew the map I had wasn't to scale but I thought it couldn't be so
far from there along the ring road, but it was definitely over a
Kilometer or two, to the Old Fort, not the Red one btw, it was nice
and not so busy. On the way I also passed a manky lake with local
people in pedalows. Oh and a powerstation and shanty town type thing
slum?

After the old fort I got a Motor Rickshaw to the Lotus temple, was
pretty, then I went again via a terrible rickshaw to humayuns tomb, I
meant to go after old fort but forogot ;( horrible because it was a
typical journey in the way you have to keep them on track, no
shopping, stopping or funny business! And to top it off he had
speakers and it was sooooo loud I missed both phones ringing! After
that stop I came back to the hotel and was informed at the desk that
my new room mate is in! He's called Tom, and is just finishing his 5
month gapyear.

We had a group meeting
And gave all our bits to Papi, and went out for dinner, not sure I'll
survive this group thing! But we start doing things tomorrow
And the next day is THE train day!

And hopefully I'll top up my AirTel in the morning after brekkie.

On tv now:
T-series everythins gonna be allright! Indian pop? Not sure it is but
it's good on tv now ;) oh another t series one now sooo coool erm I'm
confused as to if t-series is the artist or something else.

Omg now there's a song on called shut up and bounce it's rather steamy
hihu

Gonna hit send now, takes ages to type on this thing, might send
individual moaning emails out ;)

Day 2

Hi, it's 3 am here and I cannot sleep. I am also half waiting for a
guy to join me to share a room, he is on my tour too but hasn't
arrived yet, maybe he won't now.

Today I had a good day, good because I made it out in particular. Over
breakfast I met some people who have just finished what I am about to
start, we chatted over breakfast and all three were off to a bakery
around the corner and they asked if I'd like to join them, this was
exactly what I needed. I am not sure I'd have been able to push my
self out of the lobby otherwise!

We all went for a wander around the immediate local area, Karol Bagh.
This area has lots of shops and is a little rough i'd say, well I
don't have much to compare against really except with some
Posh houses I saw this afternoon.

Any way, the two youngest girls, erm Lucy and Sarah? had to leave me,
and then it was just Gill and I, Gill was mainly after salt biscuits
for her room bound hubby but she accompanied me to the AirTel shop ;)

We returned to hotel and parted saying another goodbye! I think this
will begin to be a theme, altho I did see Gill again, we shared the
dinner table this evening where she passed me her tips on, showed me a
map of where I'll be off too and shared my experiances of India so far.

She and husband have been out of Uk since last year, both retired, she
was a former PE teacher, they have 2 sons around the world and
managed to go to Mumbai for their attacks and almost Bangkok for there
airport kerfuffles.

Back to the day, I got back to my room and called up my friend from
the Internet who has been in Delhi for about a week now, first time we
had really spoken on phone, and arranged to meet up.

This was no simple task for me, well more scary than tough, I needed
money and a 'green and yellow' taxi thing maybe it's a Tuk Tuk here too.

I was followed to cash machine by a guy wanting to practice English, I
had the idea to ask where he was going and he said Anywhere! Alarm
bells sound so I say goodbye and walk briskley clutching my bag, then
the driver of the tuk tuk thing who had been following me for a block
was talking to me, I ask a price to India Gate he says 100 rupees, I
say 50! He laughs and says "no where
In Delhi" whatever that means… I hop in, making small talk and
telling him I want to go direct, and no where else after and that I
don't want to shop or anything( every rides like this, and scary)

I arrived unscaved to meet Keeley, dressed in local attire and big
shades she had a fleet of fans and a troupe of little beggars almost
changing "10rupees" constantly. They followed us for a long time until
we took a tuktuk to
Cross the road to goto Lodhi Gardens.

Lodhi gardens was quite a relief, quiet, calm, green, we shared some
macaroons that tasted of smoke while watching squirrels ( the tiny
ones I thought were
Chipmunks) we wandered around some Muslim outdoor mosque and burial
chambers there, saw what we think was a Woman giving someone a bj and
then left! I'll have photos to upload of the park!

After we wanted to visit the tibet
Museum but a taxi driver told us the wrong way, we think it was
deliberate, time was getting on and both busting for a loo we wander
into the swankiest place ever! We thought we'd have just one drink,
and use the facilites.

The bar/restaurant I'm sure will be the best one I'll set into for a
long long time, even nicer than places back home! So of course they
had London priced drinks, we shared nachos, falafel, and 4 cocktails.
2 horrid 2 nice ;) but cocktails is a bit misleading, it was more a
bloodymary, vodka and redbull, mulled wine and gin and tonic, all with
a twist of something else, it wasn't till after when we had realized
we had sipped the entire drinks away ICE and all that we thought
ooopS!! ice here is strictly off limits, I'm hoping my current ache is
cos of my chilli chicken and chilli garlic rice!

I hear people now! 4am is it my buddy?

Anyway back to evening now, was a good afternoon fun ;) we shared a
tuktuk home and I of swindled an extra 50 rupees but that's ok! I'm
glad we made it, it took forever and he wanted to take me shopping!
They take u and get comission. Oh and we only got a little lost!
That's good!

So once in I pay off my mountain of room tab and head up for dinner, I
me two girls in the first part of my tour, cannot recall names but I'm
suee I'll know soon enough.

Better try get some sleep! Back hurts strangley, probably kidneys LOL

Xxx

January 29, 2009

Well I arrived!

current status: thirsty, waiting for room service.

It might not come tho! As I have just moved rooms because I exploded
the strip light!

I didn't sleep much on the plane, was dreadfull actually. When I did
manage to drop off I was woken by torch lights or bottoms hitting me
grr, on the plus side I made a
friend called Purvaa and she came out with me and gave me her number
so if I get lost or anything in Delhi she can get me help! She also
said she would take me to the wedding she was going to but it clashes
with my tour! Crazy huh

The airport was alot of tooing and throwing, I ended up organising my
own government taxi and getting there my self, the journey was
something else! The taxi got a bit lost! But that's behind me now!

It was lovely and warm and we drove past all kinds of people,
schoolkids going home, beggars with limbs missing, mothers and babies
farming the dirty roadside, just like in tv.

By the time I got to the hotel I was knackered so I had a nap and then
tried to find the hotel restaurant but I ended up somewhere rather
strange with people sleeping on the floor! Maybe that was the kitchen!
I just had my dinner now and it was yummy! Altho I'm over curry
already hihi and I was rather concerned about two strange looking
ingredients that look like big mouse poos.

So early night for me now then up with the chipmunks in the morning,
or whatever the cute things are scurrying along outside the window
are, going to go walkies and get an Indian sim card.

Byeeee for now

Day 0.5

So, I made it to somewhere. Just writing this now from the airplane
over the sea somewhere past Africa.

First part of air journey was quite pleasant chatting to Purvaa, she's
going home for a wedding! And I was invited but I am on my tour so
cannot. Indian virgin Atlantic meals are yummy. Unfortunatly I've had
about 0.5 hours sleep off and on for the duration of the flight
